SUMMARY:MOCA miniMakers - STEAM Activation and Creative Free Play
DESCRIPTION:A class incorporating step-by-step guides\, STEAM activation and creative play to celebrate Black History Month and the Chinese New Year\n\n\nThis year for Black History Month\, MOCA is drawing the spotlight on Garrett Augustus Morgan\, Sr.\, an African-American inventor\, businessman\, and community leader. His most notable inventions were a three-position traffic signal that we still use today.\n \n \nIn light of Garrett Morgan’s invention and in honor of the Chinese New Year\, MOCA miniMakers will celebrate with lights. Children will learn about the history of Chinese paper lanterns\, and will create/engineer their own paper lanterns to take home.\n \n \nMOCA miniMakers is MOCA’s free and inclusive series of art workshops for children ages six and up. Children will have access to a variety of art techniques\, as well as an inclusive curriculum incorporating step-by-step guides\, STEAM activation\, and creative free play. Taught by experienced artists and sponsored by the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA)\, MOCA miniMakers aims to foster an accessible spirit of learning through the arts.

DESCRIPTION:A reading of The ABCs of Black History by Rio Cortez and Lauren Semmer followed by an art project.\n\n\nIn honor of Black History Month\, MOCA Sunday Stories will be reading The ABCs of Black History by Rio Cortez and Lauren Semmer. Letter by letter\, The ABCs of Black History spans continents and centuries\, triumph and heartbreak\, creativity and joy. After the reading\, participants will create a collaborative collage using their hands to create paper stencils. Everyone will get a piece to take home.\n \nJoin MOCA on the first Sunday of every month for MOCA Sunday Stories for storytime\, followed by a DIY early childhood art project. Sponsored by the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency\, this early childhood program engages toddlers and fosters reading\, motor skill development and socialization. MOCA Sunday Stories is also a great way for children to bond with their parents or guardians as they create together.
