MOCA Makers – Japanese Paper Dyeing and Bookbinding

March 12, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free
A free art workshop on traditional Japanese paper dyeing and bookbinding

Explore a traditional Japanese paper dyeing (orizome-shi) and Japanese bookbinding (wahon) technique inspired by Shawna Moulton’s travel to Tokushima, Japan. Create your own beautiful and unique patterned papers and choose one for your handmade book cover. Orizome translates to “folded dyeing” and is a timeless Japanese paper-craft technique that combines “origami” paper folding and colored pigment dip-dyeing. While the orizome paper is drying the class will move on to bookmaking and will then create a Japanese-style notebook.

MOCA Makers is a series of adult art workshops offered the second Saturday of every month. MOCA Makers enables the artistically interested public to learn from local artists in South Florida. Topics include print making, figure drawing, portrait painting and more. MOCA Makers is made possible with the generous support of the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
